Tales from the Túath

This exhibit is no longer on display.
It was on view in Phillips Memorial Library from August 2025 to December 2025. While the physical exhibit has concluded, you can still explore its highlights and legacy on this page.

In collaboration with the Providence College Galleries (PCG), the PC Archives and Special Collections (ASC) is pleased to announce a new student-curated exhibit.

“The Providence College Galleries’ permanent collection holds a myriad of paintings, sculptures, and artifacts, covering centuries of rich history. Two green frames caught our attention, holding watercolors depicting pastoral countrysides. Scanning these works, we came across a written inscription on each, leading us to question how image and text came together. We sought to uncover the who, what, and why of these watercolors, and in the process, discovered an Irish immigrant’s fight for progress and liberation in early 20th century Providence.”  – Claire Cordonnier ’25, Hayley Lonergan ’26

Curated by Cordonnier and Lonergan, Tales from the Túath examines two artworks by D. Curley from the PCG permanent collection. The word “túath” means countryside or landscape in Irish. This is a nod to the composition and setting of the works, and the recently discovered historical narratives that surround them.
